Intel to challenge Eee PC with launch of Classmate in US and Europe

2008 is shaping up to be the year of the cheapie laptop, with Intel the latest to jump on that particular bandwagon with its next-generation Classmate PCs.
Initially designed for children in developing nations, it’s now launching in the US and Europe as a second generation for between $250 to $350. Specs are still under wraps, but it’s likely to be a consumer-friendly Windows machine, with flexibility on the storage, RAM and screen size.
But don’t jump too soon – Intel is allegedly already working on a third generation device.
