intel_cheapie.jpg2008 is shaping up to be the year of the cheapie laptop, with Intel the latest to jump on that particular bandwagon with its next-generation Classmate PCs.

Initially designed for children in developing nations, it’s now launching in the US and Europe as a second generation for between $250 to $350. Specs are still under wraps, but it’s likely to be a consumer-friendly Windows machine, with flexibility on the storage, RAM and screen size.

But don’t jump too soon – Intel is allegedly already working on a third generation device.
