WORLD NOT SAVED! No reduction achieved by Energy Saving Day - energy consumption actually went UP

Oh dear. You naughty little children. It looks like no one bothered with Energy Saving Day in the end, as the awareness-raising effort spectacularly failed to raise any awareness - or cut our power usage. We actually used MORE energy on Energy Saving Day than on a normal day. Whoops.

So either the word didn't get out, or bending down to turn the TV off at the plug really is too much of an effort for all of our lazy arses, or we all think global warming is just one big excuse for the government to tax us more for everything fun and literally couldn't care less.

Here's E-Day's official energy no-saving result:

And here's what E-Day organiser Dr Matt Prescott had to say on the rather disappointing turn of events:

"E-Day did not succeed in cutting the UK's electricity demand. The drop in temperature between Wed 27 Feb and Thurs 28 Feb days probably caused this, as a result of more lights and heating being left on than were originally predicted. The National Grid refined their assessments, based on actual weather data, during Thursday afternoon but I am afraid that E-Day did not achieve the scale of public awareness or participation needed to have a measurable effect."

Or, like we said, it's the whole having to bend down to reach the plug socket thing that's the real issue here. Waist-height plug sockets might encourage us not to leave everything on standby. That ought to be your next campaign, Dr P. Waist High Week.
