Nokia has announced two new handsets boasting a collection of advanced navigation and multimedia features. Click on any of the images for higher resolution shots.

Nokia_6210_Navigator.jpgThe Nokia 6210 Navigator is the company’s first phone to incorporate GPS with an integrated compass, allowing for a much more advanced navigation service for pedestrian use. Bundled with the newly announced Nokia Maps 2.0, the phone utilises an accelerometer (yes, made popular by that other phone) which should allow for accurate guidance based on changes in the user’s orientation. Mind you, I wonder if you’ll have to employ a silly walk in order to ensure that it always works?

The 6210 works on 3.5G networks, and takes advantage of that by integrating navigation with the Web to give information and contact details about points of interest. The phone can also be used just as easily as a sat-nav in car, with one-touch navigation and the usual features you’d expect from a dedicated system.

It also features A-GPS, and comes with a 1GB memory card pre-loaded with local maps. Additionally, multimedia isn’t forgotten, with a 3.2 megapixel camera, MP3 player, and FM radio rounding things off.

Nokia6220_classic.jpgThe Nokia 6220 Classic “converged device”, with its 2.2 inch colour LCD screen, is being touted as an excellent phone to share your life with others on, boasting the ability to take high quality photos and video on the five megapixel camera and then use A-GPS to geo-tag them.

That 5MP camera features a Carl-Zeiss lens, Xenon flash, and autofocus, so it’s no pushover, and with a high-speed connection it’s then possible to upload them to popular Web services such as Flickr, YouTube, and blog platforms.

As per the 6210, the latest Nokia Maps 2.0 is pre-installed on the phone, as are “WidSets” which brings web content widgets directly to the device.

An additional feature for voice calling (remember that?) is Adaptive Multi Rate – Wideband speech coding technology that helps to make the voice sound more natural particularly when calling from noisy environments.

Both handsets are expected in Autumn 2008, retailing for around €300 (£225), but that’ll depend on contracts and so on.
