Social music network Last.fm has announced that it has signed a deal with PPL to provide performance royalty payments to artists streamed via its UK radio.

PPL is a music industry organisation which collects and distributes airplay and public performance royalties in the UK on behalf of performers and labels. Artists and labels who have signed up with PPL will now be able to collect royalties on tracks listened to on Last.fm’s radio service.

Last month the music site announced the launch of a scheme whereby artists unaffiliated to any collection agency or record label would be able to earn money directly from Last.fm when their music was listened to. Alongside this new deal with PPL, it means that all artists, signed or unsigned, will be able to earn revenue from their music via Last.fm.
