It was largely successful, smashing previous Martin Luther King weekend box office hits, all due mostly to the inordinate amount of internet viral marketing and suspenseful 'What is Cloverfield?' adverts. Producer JJ Abrams hasn't slowed down the internet hype though, as a prequel has been released online, in the form of manga, giving just a bit more information on the monster's origins. I think, anyway - the blasted thing is written in Japanese, so if anyone can translate it and let us know in the comments below, the sake is on us!

Honestly? There Will Be Blood isn't even out over here yet. Cloverfield's a superior monster movie - still not as good as The Host, I'd say. But it's no classic. You need to get to the cinema more often, I say.
