Dubbed "social networking with a point", Voxswap is a social networking site which aims to connect together some of the millions of people who are learning a foreign language.
The concept is pretty simple: pair up people who are trying to speak each others' languages.
Services on offer include internal email, chat, and forums, plus the ability to built profiles with pictures, video, tags, and further information about themselves.
A nice touch is the addition of a virtual keyboard which supports multiple languages, and hence makes it possible to type in characters and accents required in other languages which may not be immediately accessible from their own computer keyboard.
"I am convinced social networking is here to stay but it needs to have a point," said co-founder Sean Hargrave. "There's no benefit in creating long lists of so-called friends and business contacts you never actually meet or contact.
"That's why I decided to launch a social network site that will help people learn or practise a foreign language so everybody benefits. I couldn't find the site I was looking for, so I decided to build it."
Joining the site is free of charge, and the service launches properly today.
