vodafone_e172_usb_stick_mobile_internet_broadband.jpgVodafone UK has announced a deal with Huawei which sees its smallest HSUPA USB stick launched, giving customers high-speed mobile Internet access on their mobile PC, handheld device, or desktop PC.

The creatively named E172 gives a download rate of up to 7.2Mbps, which is certainly no slouch, and an upload rate of up to 2Mbps. Yes, I know — “up to” — but we live in hope.

Fully compatible with Windows Vista and XP, and Mac OS X, the device was apparently designed with the elegance of a sleek white piano in mind. Well, it takes all sorts.

For personal use or remote working, customers buy Vodafone for predictability, unrivalled speeds, reliability and ease of use. Our customers are seeing real benefits from the ease of use offered by our USB plug and go device, coupled with our increased network speeds. As a result, they have increased their usage six-fold as they use the service to work more productively or surf the internet”, commented Kyle Whitehill, Vodafone UK, Enterprise Director.

That’s all very nice, Kyle, but what we really want to know is, “How much does it cost?”, and “What’s the monthly usage allowance?”.

Well, it appears to cost £25 per month, and comes free on a 24-month contract, and “Monthly price plans subject to 3GB UK fair usage policy, 24 hour UK sessions subject to 500MB fair usage policy, 24 hour roaming sessions subject to 50MB fair usage policy.”

That compares rather favourably with 3’s offering — one gigabyte of data for a tenner a month. Let’s get some competition going here. More data, less dosh please!
