It wasn’t just plasmas on show at Samsung’s CES press conference this morning. The company also unveiled new LCD tellies, the Series 6 and Series 7. They’re keen to shout about the new TVs’ design, which apparently takes inspiration from cars and fashion, in a “hint of amber naturally blended into the piano-black bezel frame” stylee.

The Series 6 range will come in 40, 46 and 52-inch models, all offering a 178-degree viewing angle, and a response time of 4ms. They also feature Samsung’s own Auto Motion Plus 120Hz motion blur reduction tech, which will please sports fans and gamers. Actually, I’ve noticed all the HDTV manufacturers wanting to talk up the gaming capabilities of their new TVs.

Expect four HDMI inputs, and an Ethernet port to facilitate internetweb connectivity – Samsung has also launched an RSS service called InfoLink that makes use of this. Why Ethernet and not Wi-Fi, I wonder?

Meanwhile, the Series 7 range will come in 40, 46 and 52-inch models, and are due on sale in May. They feature all the stuff from the Series 6 range, along with a side-mounted USB 2.0 port, to which you can hook up a digital camera or MP3 player.
They also have internal flash memory that’s loaded with “premium content to enjoy right out of the box”. I’m not sure quite what that means – actual movies and music, or just video ads? It’ll be interesting to see. Finally, the Series 7 range will also have integrated woofers. Grand.

  • Hi,

If the report was written for the USA then 120Hz is correct for the motion blur statement.
This is written for the UK so the frequency is 100Hz.
