Alas, poor Yorick. I knew him. And then he lost his login details and had to create a completely new avatar...

Yes, someone's putting on a performance of Hamlet within virtual world Second Life. The SL Shakespeare Company, to be specific. And they're doing it within a proper reproduction of the Globe Theatre, and using motion capture and swizzy artificial intelligence too.

The play will feature historically accurate costumes (none of yer modern experimental rubbish!), and the company is even looking into the possibility of using real-time lip-synching - useful given the audience's ability to zoom in for a close look at the actors. It's set to kick off next year.

I would be very surprised to see this done. It is quite possibly one of the most ambitious motion capture projects I have ever seen. I see no way how live motion capture would work with body and facial capture in mind. This is one area that I would assume most people in the motion capture business would love to see happen. But with the technology as it is, I can't see how this would be done without a massive budget and for what? There is no modal in this other than PR I think. I wish them luck, it will never happen.....
