The criteria for being nominated in the prestigious awards means artists must have had a single or album in the UK top 75 in the past 16 months. Radiohead, releasing In Rainbows online, has not announced the official sales figures to chart compilers, thus aren’t eligible, as is Prince, who gave away a copy of Planet Earth with each copy of the Mail On Sunday newspaper back in July.

Prince has won six Brit Awards to date, mostly for Best International Male, and Radiohead, whilst never winning a Brit Award before, almost certainly would’ve been nominated for several categories. Sadly their CD and vinyl release of In Rainbows on the 31st of December is too late for next year’s, but could enter 2009’s nominations.

Someone tell Courtney Love and all the other musicians dallying with the idea of releasing albums exclusively online! Probably no need to inform Cliff Richard, though.
