channel4.gifChannel 4 has today launched its high definition simulcast channel on Sky. Announced in September, key programming from Channel 4’s stable, including “Ugly Betty”, classic and contemporary films, selected music concerts, and (from next spring) “Hollyoaks”, will be available to watch on Channel 140.

Anyone with a Sky HD box and an active Sky viewing card will be able to access the service. It joins the BBC’s high definition channel on Sky, though at least BBC HD can be picked up on other platforms as well.

It could be quite a while before almost completely free high definition content is available.

Unsurprisingly, both Channel 4 and Sky are excited by the deal, with Channel 4 boasting of their “reputation as an innovator in television”, and Sky boasting about the range of HD-quality content available on their platform.
