Does anyone recognise these five men in the photo taken at Friday's UK iPhone launch? Yes, but you're not owning up to it? Smart move, I wouldn't either.
Stuart's already had his say about the huge media onslaught claiming the launch was a failure, or as The Register eloquently phrased it, 'Tumbleweeds outnumber punters, as iPhone's first night flops', but just how many were sold so far? Whilst no official numbers have been released yet, The Mirror is claiming that they sold at "a rate of 4.2 per second at the height of the frenzy at 1,300 outlets". This seems to contradict the reports seen in other publications, nonetheless their Sunday issue stated there were "as many as 70,000" sales across all the retailers flogging the mobile, namely O2, Apple and Carphone Warehouse stores.
More good news for Apple fanatics - if anyone is looking for a job, O2 has promised to create 727 new jobs to handle customer calls regarding the iPhone. Alternatively good news for Microsoft fanboys, who could use the job as a form of guerilla warfare. "Yes, Mrs. Jones, I said throw the phone on the floor, and stamp on it. That will help with the problems concerning the camera...yes, nice and hard not, that should do the trick."

My point exactly, PsionAndy - As I said, "This seems to contradict the reports seen in other publications, nonetheless their Sunday issue stated there were "as many as 70,000" sales", it's fairly obvious the Mirror has their facts bungled completely. Somehow I doubt 62,000 Brits are smart enough to unlock their iPhones ;)
