Sony's PlayStation Store for PSP launches - is UMD finally on the way out?

playstation-store-psp.jpgSony's kicked the PSP download scene into life today, with the official unveiling of the online PlayStation Store.

Here you're able to buy PSP games and download demos on your PC, then simply chuck them across to your PSP via a USB cable. Game prices are pretty reasonable, too, especially if you want to relive a few happy memories of PlayStation1 games on PSP's very decent PS1 emulator - WipEout and Everybody's Golf 2 can be had for a most reasonable £3.49.

Finally, a way to do away with PSP's abysmal, battery-sapping UMD format altogether. We won't miss the grinding, minute-long waits between starting a game and actually getting to play the game one bit.
