pickypirate.jpgThose crafty online pirates, what will they come up with next? While the music and film industries set about taking down the most popular BitTorrent servers, elsewhere new and more innovative services are popping up to take their place.

One such is PickyPirate, which mashes up BitTorrent search engines Mininova and The Pirate Bay with Metacritic, the site that tracks reviews of music, games, movies and TV shows. PickyPirate shows the most highly rated items in these categories, and matches them to the healthiest public torrents available, with handy links for downloading.

It even offers links to Xbox 360 and Wii games. The idea is to help users find the best stuff to download more quickly. Mind you, with various industry bodies cracking down on this type of thing, PickyPirate looks set to come under legal pressure soon – fuelling the debate over whether linking to pirated content, rather than hosting it, is equally illegal.
