O2 may have the iPhone, but their latest “own label” XDA handset packs in a lot of features not present on the Apple device.

For a start, the Xda Stellar is 3G, so it has the faster connection many of us Brits are used to. It has a physical QWERTY keyboard, so no faffing with a virtual one, and yet it still has a colour touchscreen for all the other advantages that brings. The screen can be tilted to provide a decent viewing angle, and the keyboard slides out.

It runs the Windows Mobile 6 operating system, and offers functionality such as video telephony, business card reader, MP3 player, 3 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Microsoft Office document editor, Personal Information Manager, synchronisation with PC, expandable memory up to 32GB, quad band, and Microsoft Direct Push Email / BlackBerry Connect compatibility.

It also has “built-in” GPS functionality, coming bundled with CoPilot Live 7 satellite navigation software, though you do have to buy and add a separate satellite navigation accessory pack to make use of GPS.

The Xda Stellar is probably not going to rival the iPhone or some of the higher end Nokia’s for breadth of multimedia options – an iPod it’s not (from initial specs, at least) – but it’s a lot more business savvy and, if you’re happy to stick on O2, seems like a decent handset.

Available from today from O2 stores and online, with price will varying depending on tariff.
