We don't usually get excited about gadgets whose big selling point is their cheapness, but the ASUS Eee PC 4G is an exception. Why? Well, it's a small super-light laptop selling for £219, with built-in Wi-Fi and a claimed battery life of 3.5 hours, making it surely the ultimate liveblogging laptop.
Instead of a traditional hard drive, it's got a 4GB flash drive inside, as well as a built-in webcam. Yes, the screen is only seven inches in size, but that's got a corresponding effect on the size of the device itself, which only weighs 0.92kg. Cor.
It's on sale today in Pearl White and Galaxy Black models in some London tech shops (Micro Anvika, Samuel King and Platinum Solutions), as well as online at Ebuyer, with a wider national release from Wednesday. We're getting one in for a review sharpish, so stay posted.

Looks & sounds neat. Maybe I'm a bit confused by the technology on offer here, as the manual from Asus has a paragraph saying "The solid-state disk drive's head retracts when power is turned OFF to prevent scratching of the solid-state disk drive surface during transport. Therefore you should not transport the Eee PC while the power is still ON". I think something's been lost in translation there...
