Shiny Video Preview: Satski's GPS system for skiing trips

The skiing system is fast approaching, but don't spend all your money in TK Maxx on the reduced North Face jackets, as the Satski system may just be the thing you need to complete your snow-bunny look.

The pocket-sized GPS system is designed for use on the slopes, where it creates an interactive piste map which assists you in your skiing adventures. It records your movements too, plus has built-in games and an MP3 player for those moments of down-time on the ski lift. It's £1,500, which is bound to be more than your whole ski trip is costing you, but it'll last for years and years, and if it saves you from breaking a leg by running off an unseen cliff-face, then all the better. I went skiing in the season twice. brought the satski gps device with me. but quite a lot of disappontments. I would say, leave navigation to in car use. not for piste use. I even could not read the display. and the receipt of gps signal was very weak and bad. So my route recording was not reliable to make reports afterwards.

This is device is not reliable at all. It appears losing it's gps signal each 5 minutes. Which causes not only navigating problems. But also missing route playback recordings. And this last one was my main reason of purchasing it. My impression is that the manufacturing is not so solid. I would say it is made in China for a cheap price. And the price is much too high. It should be half the price if the quality is also half of the promises I got on satski website. So I've got mine for sale:-( Rgrds, Jenny

I regret it too to have bought this device. And I am very sorry about it. Item looked pretty cool just out of the box. But a little bit of snow fell on my device and it sustained water damage. water went behind my display. and couldn't use it the next day. not suitable for usage in snow apparantly.

The Satski team are posting entries to make their product look great. But in reality most objective user entries seem to be very negatively. I am searching internet. And users overall are not very happy. I was considering to buy for next winter. But I changed my mind.

Hello Satski users, this is John Christian. I have had troubles with Satski Customer support. They have insulted me and called me names. Because I told them I would share my negative experience with them and their product online. Now they are abusing my name in forums online. What an unprofessional organisation this is. I am obviously very very angry with them. I am sorry to bother you with this, but I just want things to be honest and right. This organisation is totally disrespectful and unreliable.

Hi me and Steve just returned from the prefect snow in NZ. The device was pretty ok in usage. For us the black piste navigation worked quite ok. Although some restaurants were missing in database. Device looks pretty cool. But the device lost GPS signal on certain sides of the mountain. So my playbacks are not accurately and complete. Also the screen was a little hard to read. But we bought the device mainly to record our tripz. Glad we shared the costs otherwise the device would be way to expensive! Rgrds, Josh Rawbone and Steve Wilson

Well, I visited New C-land and went to the snowy mounts. Our chalet gave us one GPS unit. They received multiple complaints from their guests about this product. We returned it after 1 day. It morely looks like asian made poor quality to me. The screen was flashing all the time. sometimes had to wait until it gave me a normal look to view the map. The outlook was fabulous by the way.

Hello, I am waiting for a replacement unit for faulty unit since 3 months. Still haven't received anything. Some people are experiencing the same I read on a Ski forum thread. Just Google these 3 words 'snowheads+forum+satski' and find out for yourself. Unlike product quality a Companies unreliability is not subject for improvement. This company is totally NOT reliable. Nor is it's CEO (JCB) I experienced. He was very rude to me AND to others! If you want to purchase a Satski GPS think about it twice I would suggest!

My unit worked pretty well. I used it for the first 3 days of my holiday to Kaprun. I think it worked ok. But can't check it. on the fourth day I fell down on my right side. My Satski GPS was in my left pocket. But due to the shock it was defect after I fell to the ground. I returned it to Satski. And also am waiting now for quite a while (more than 2.5 months). Guess they are busy now. Anyways there is nu hurry. Because I have to wait for my next ski holiday for a couple of months. My advise to Satski R & D is to make it shockproof. Because I didn't fall very hard. Despite this the device was broken. And every snow lover runs the risk of falling down maybe not because of his own fault but it can also happen if somebody who can’t ski properly hits you. Cheers, Michael.


Hi, I was a bit disappointed after my wintersports holidays about Satski GPS device. My movie playback was very incomplete. Some parts of my trips have been missing. After returning home this was a big deception for me and my fam. This product is in the beginning of it's development. I would personally advise to wait a few generations before purchasing it. To me it looks more like fashionable rather then solid, as required for Wintersports circumstances.

My unit broke down on the first day of wintersport. Called them at internat. rate. CEO promissed me to send a new one on my holiday address. But it never happened. Thanks very much for nothing! More over when I emailed him my personal opinion he mailed me back that "I should get a life". How unprofessional.

hello, I just received my 3rd satski device. it became faulty 2 time is a row. the quality obviously needs to improve big time. not happy with this quality at all! the last unit becaming faulty was their new white version. the lcd keeps on flashing strangly and it takes a long time to boot. same appeared on my 1st faulty unit. so in that aspect it didn't improve at all!

seems they have come a long way in the last yr. i have satski on my iphone which is fantastic as i dont have to carry anything else in my pockets, oh, and it works perfectly, thank god! they do other satski mobile apps as well, and i also noticed that they are still selling a gps on their website but it looks different to the one in the video above so they must have designed a new one for this year.
