myspace-logo.jpgO2 has announced that it won’t be levying data charges on its customers for accessing MySpace’s mobile site during November and December. After that, they’ll pay the normal off-portal data charges according to their tariff, but unlike on Vodafone, they won’t have to pay a monthly subscription for access to the site itself.

“We want to be one of the first mobile operators to fully exploit the new phenomenon that is social networking,” says Matthew Key, CEO at O2 UK. Hopefully this “full” exploitation will extend to similar offers for Facebook and Bebo’s mobile sites (although the latter has some kind of an exclusive with rival operator Orange).

O2 is hoping that once the free period runs out, MySpace users will switch to one of its O2 Web bolt-ons, such as the one that involves paying £7.50 a month for unlimited browsing on all sites.
