The SciFi blog has reported that a number of Windows Vista Home Premium and Ultimate users have received a Media Centre software upgrade which gives them access to a beta version of Microsoft Internet TV.

It offers a selection of TV shows, live concerts, and movie trailers, which stream in “near DVD quality” to PC or TV. All content is free but ad-supported.

At present, there’s a limited amount of content, but the likelihood is that Microsoft will ramp this up as the service develops. No word on whether such a test service will come to the UK, but given how long it took for any meaningful video content to arrive on Apple’s iTunes Store, it could be a while.
