Citizen's Seismic Watch earthquake warning system

citizen_seismic_watch.jpgThis chunky man’s watch features an Earthquake Early Warning radio receiver inside it, so if the roof’s about to cave in you’ll have a chance to put some clothes on so you’re not embarrassingly dragged out of the rubble naked.

The EEW warning system will be broadcast via radio waves, hopes Citizen, with the radio system faster than other text message-based systems. Once alerted of impending doom, the watch watch politely vibrates – then starts a panic-inducing countdown to the estimated arrival time of the quake.

Sadly it’s not out until 2010, so you’re on your own until then. Look out for rats running out in the streets and rolling themselves into the foetal position if you’re in Japan before then.
