A new handheld GPS device is set to launch in the UK – Satmap.

It’s very much for the outdoor type, housed in a rugged case that should keep it functioning no matter what the elements throw at it. Specific technical details are still scarce, but we do know that it reads digital maps on an SD card, with the on board software allowing you to zoom and pan the areas like you would with Google Maps, although this only offers a view via a 3.5-inch colour screen.

There will be over 100 different map cards to choose from covering National Parks, National Trails, UK regions and UK counties. More maps will be launched throughout the year, extending coverage outside the UK. Both PC and Mac compatible, it should launch in the coming weeks with a price tag of around £300.
