If you listen to anyone except Toshiba, you get the idea that Blu-ray is pulling away in the HD sales war. So a good time for Samsung to be launching two new players – the BD-P2400 and BD-P1400.

Both the BD-P2400 and the lesser BD-P1400 feature Blu-ray playback at native HD resolution (1080p / 1080i / 720p), handle HD video at 1920 x 1080, and up-convert standard DVDs to 1080p via HDMI. If you plump for the BD-P2400, you can also take advantage of Samsung’s “Hollywood Quality Video” for even more impressive visuals from the latest movie titles.

There’s also stereo and 5.1, coaxial and optical digital out and Dolby Digital Plus with DTS HD and MP3 playback. US only so far, with the BD-P1400 arriving in September for $549, followed by the BD-P2400 in October for $649.
