What's more, the people behind Blu-ray appear to be embracing Japanese pr0n providers right back. Reports suggest that Sony has started offering technical support to the Japanese adult film industry, ensuring a steady supply of blu movies (ho ho) for the forseeable future.
Sony's own disc-replication division Sony DADC is still maintaining a policy of not working with adult film companies, but Sony is putting adult production companies in touch with firms who will, enabling them to mass-produce Blu-ray versions of their films.
Is this important to anyone who doesn't spend their evenings in watching women get deflowered by tentacle-probing robots though?
Well, yes. It's often said that the reason the VHS video format beat its rival Betamax was because the adult industry chose the former. It's not Game Over yet for HD DVD though, as it's already received strong support from US-based adult studios.
I don't even want to start speculating about the benefits of watching top-shelf movies in high-resolution are: although it might at least persuade studios to start investing a bit more in set design (i.e. not just a grubby mattress, four bare walls, and an off-screen saxophonist).
