Hitachi to launch unnamed 1080p Blu-Ray camcorder
Hitachi is to launch a 1080p Blu-Ray camcorder – but it’s still some time off and without a product name so far.
But we do know some things about it. For a start, it should be the world’s first camcorder to record directly to Blu-Ray, recording to three-inch BD-R/RE discs, capable of storing 7GB of data. Ok, that’s probably less than you were expecting, given the capacity of Blu-ray discs, but it’s still up on a conventional DVD. On a more positive note, it features a 5.3-megapixel CMOS sensor that captures images in 1080p, as well as AVC/H.264 MPEG-4 encoding for better HD compression, plus MPEG-2 if you want to record in SD.
There’s talk of a Japanese release towards the end of the year, so us poor Europeans will probably be waiting a year.
