And about time too. Sony has shown off the second-generation PSP, which it says is a third lighter and 19% slimmer than the current model. It'll have better battery life, load up games and UMD movies faster, and will boast a TV-Out feature letting you play games on your big-screen telly, as well as watch videos.
It'll be available in black, white and silver, including a special Star Wars Battlefront edition with Darth Vader on the back. My geekometer just exploded. In the US, the new PSP will cost $199, with a 1GB Memory Stick and Daxter game thrown in, and is due on sale in September.
It sounds like Sony has tackled all the original PSP's flaws, but the real challenge is to ensure the device has enough standout games (i.e. not PS2 ports) to challenge Nintendo's all-conquering DS.

What a big let down! They should have scrapped that power hungry obsolete UMD optical drive and made it half the weight again, but Sony recently have totally lost the plot, so it's not a big surprise.
