Don't expect to make a fortune from selling your Prince Mail on Sunday album on eBay

prince-planet-earth.JPGDid you get a copy of the Mail on Sunday yesterday, with its free covermount of Prince’s new album? Some people got ten copies, with the aim of selling their spare CDs on eBay for a huge profit.

Except this morning, they’ll be feeling a bit deflated. I set a watch on four auction listings due to end overnight, and the final prices were £2, £2.20, £3.01 and £5.51. Considering the newspaper itself cost £1.40, and eBayers have to pay listing fees, nobody’s going to be retiring on the proceeds.

Tell you what though: there are a lot of grey-haired MoS readers out there who haven’t got the foggiest idea who Prince is (or, indeed, what you do with a CD) – so expect to see copies of the album filling up charity shop shelves in the near future. eBayers’ pain is Oxfam’s gain…
