Not content with being in our homes and cars, Sony is now pitching a range of music systems for anyone who likes to mess about in boats, with the waterproof and durable Sony CDX-HR70MW, CDX-GT10M and CDX-R35MRR.

The CDX-HR70MW (above) is a CD receiver and MP3 player, ruggedly built to exceed APx5 weatherproofing standards. The design features round dials that are supposed to “echo most boat interiors”, along with a large display that you can still see in poor conditions.

Also in the range is the CDX-GT10M, effectively a car stereo system – but for your boat. It has radio and CD playback, along with connectivity to your MP3 player (as long as that’s weatherproof too) and a detachable face plate. The CDX-R35MRR includes a retractable faceplate for protection against the elements, as well as CDR and MP3 playback and an optional Marine Commander, so you can change tracks from the comfort of the deck. The latter two units also have a UV-resistant front panel and a coating that helps to resist fading and the effects of salt and moisture.

No news on price or a shelf date as yet.
