50-cent.jpgSecond Life isn’t the only virtual world in town, y’know. The success of Linden Labs’ world (well, the media hype surrounding it) has spawned a series of rivals all hoping to cash in on virtuality. One is Zwinktopia, which has just signed a deal for rapper 50 Cent to open his own boutique there.

When I read that news, I was hoping for a florists (“It’s yer birthday? How yer doing for petunias?”), but no. 50 Cent’s Zwinktopia shop will be distributing digital clothing based on his G-Unit brand, as well as promoting his new album.

“It’s the equivalent of sending a marketing team to a new country where there is a new economy,” says Chris Romero, 50 Cent’s creative director of digital media. That’s right, Fiddy employs a creative director of digital media. Beat that, Razorlight.
