Zune_1005It has been widely rumoured that Microsoft has been busy working on a flash based Zune to rival the iPod nano. News filtering out from a developer only conference, however, reveals that it has plans for a new hard drive based model too.

The new model will have a bigger screen and the hard drive capacity will be up there with Apple’s biggest offering, according to spies for iLounge.

The flash based model was less exciting – bigger than the nano and nothing amazing. The best someone could say about it was ‘not bad’, which doesn’t exactly bode well for Microsoft.

No solid prices or release dates were given, but it’s anticipated they’ll show up in the next few months priced around the same level as their equivalent iPod competitors.

  • All the iPood lovers out there are criticizing the ‘nano’ version of Zune ’cause of the size…. Well if the iPod Nano did wi-fi and supported video it wouldn’t be that size either…. Whoops looks like MS outdid Apple (again)……
