Skype_0405Skype customers in the US and Canada will be able to get a whole day’s worth of free calls thanks to a tie up with Intel. On Sunday May 13 – Mother’s Day in the States – customers will be able to make free SkypeOut calls to landlines or mobiles all over the world thanks to Intel’s Gift of Gab promotion.

According to the latest figures from In-Stat, more than 10.6 million households in the US are now using VoIP.

Intel is hoping the day will prove how good its latest chips are at providing audio and video calls – which seems a little incongruous.

“Through Intel and Skype’s ‘Gift of Gab’ promotion, consumers and business users can experience the immediate benefits of the Internet communications lifestyle –especially on Mother’s Day, normally the busiest calling holiday of the year,” said Gregory Bryant, vice president and general manager of Intel’s Digital Office Platform Division.
