Sony has announced details of its latest Firmware upgrade for the PlayStation 3 – the highlight of which is upscaling for your standard definition discs.

PS3 Firmware 1.80 offers upscaling for PSOne, PS2 and DVD movies to full 1080p HD resolution via HDMI, if your TV supports it. And there’s also Remote Play via the internet if you have a Sony PSP and you’re hooked up to a network – that means accessing your PS3 with your Sony PSP.

The PS3 can also access content from locally networked DLNA-compatible devices (like PCs or laptops), with playback on your TV screen and print out photos on selected Epson printers.

The update is available as of today.
