Hot on the heels of Acer’s 5920 nature-inspired notebooks comes this more smaller, more rugged number – the Acer TravelMate 6292.

It’s cased in magnesium alloy that’s “20 times stronger yet considerably lighter than plastic”. Which has to be good news if you drag one through the daily commute. In terms of specification, there’s a 12.1-inch, 1280 x 800 widescreen display, Intel Core 2 Duo processors and next-generation 802.11n Wi-Fi.

Also on-board is Bluetooth 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, a 56Kbps modem, five-in-one memory card reader and Firewire, s-video and VGA outputs. Plus there’s an integrated webcam, up to 160GB of hard drive space, up to 2GB of 667MHz DDR 2 memory (expandable to 4GB) and a mult-format DVD writer. Operating system is a choice of Vista or XP.

It’s due in stores soon, but as yet, there’s no price information available.
