TomTom Rider – GPS unit for bikers

Although you might think bikers just spend their time aimlessly tearing around country roads, some of them do actually travel a good distance – and need a GPS system like any car driver. Well, now they have one – the TomTom Rider.

Suction isn’t going to work on a high-powered bike, so this one has a specially made ‘Ram’ mount that claims to fit virtually all bikes. And it’s also housed in a rugged casing for extra security. There’s one more area that needs addressing for a bike – you aren’t going to hear spoken directions. This is dealt with by using the Cardo scala-rider Bluetooth headset – so instructions are right in your ear.

And just in case you have a mobile phone on the go too, the Bluetooth headset can also pair with that for making and receiving calls.

The Rider goes on sale towards the end of May in both UK and Western Europe mapping editions. Pricing has yet to be set but is expected to be £300 and £400 respectively.
