Sony launches direct USB E-Series portable players

Is it a USB drive? Or a small perfume bottle? Actually, it’s neither, this is Sony’s latest weapon in its battle for a share of the portable music player market – the Sony E-Series player.

Its appeal is in its size and indeed weight – just 29g. But it does carry the features you would expect from your average player – an OLED colour screen for track details and a good amount of storage for your tunes – 1GB, 2GB or 4GB. And it’s direct USB, which means you can plug it into just about any USB-friendly device to play your tunes out in the wild or use it as a regular storage device.

Sound is boosted by Clear Audio technology and the battery life is an impressive 30 hours. Not exactly ground-breaking, but certainly a neat little player. No prices as yet – or indeed a UK launch date. However, you should be able to pick one up in Japan in the coming weeks.
