Yep that’s right – Microsoft is staging a worldwide Pac-Man-off on Xbox Live between 25 April and 9 May.

The top players from across the globe will be whisked away to New York for the final on 5 June and the winner will be crowned by Mr Pac-Man himself Toru Iwatani who created the character.

Nine players in total will be chosen, with one each from Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Canada, Japan and Mexico and two from Europe and the United States. Finalist will be decided based on the highest Xbox Live leaderboard score where they live.

If that all seems like a bit too much thumb tapping, residents of the US and Canada can skip the queue by entering the Pac-Man FANatic competition by putting together a video that shows why they are the ultimate Pac-Man fan.

Prizes include 100,000 Microsoft Points, a limited edition Pac-Man Xbox 360 and 26 years free Quizno toasted sandwiches – worth a staggering $13,520.

Gamers can register at the Xbox Live Tournament site from 25 April.
