sonygpsunit.jpgSony has released its GPS-CS1KA GPS Unit this month, allowing any digital camera that takes Exif 2.1-compatible images to have location data saved alongside it.

The GPS-CS1 is a portable Global Positioning System unit that records time and date information along with actual position wherever GPS satellite coverage is available.

It comes with Sony’s Picture Motion Browser software which matches photo dates and times with satellite-derived position information as captured by the GPS-CS1, and then allows for these tagged images to be displayed on a Google map.

The kit comes with a soft carry case that can be clipped to a camera case, shoulder strap, or clothing, and features a transparent window for visibility of battery and memory indicators.

The unit weighs 55g and allows up to 10 hours of continuous use with a single alkaline battery. It holds approximately one month’s worth of tracking data, based on 12 hours use per day.
