Nikon is attempting to tempt more consumers into the world of the SLR with the D40x, an addition to its range, not a replacement for the D40, says Nikon.

The new model has a 10.2 megapixel CCD image sensor, along with Nikon’s exclusive 3D Colour Matrix Metering II and auto white balance, which Nikon claims will produce the “true colour of the subject matter”. It also features a 3x 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor lens and is compatible with the 55-200mm VR Zoom-Nikkor telephoto and you develop your photography skills.

Other notable points are a 2.5-inch LCD screen, near instant power-up, a continuous shooting mode of 100 jpeg images at three frames per second, integrated auto focus, i-TTL flash control to evaluate ideal flash exposure, a D-Lighting function to improves areas of underexposure in images taken with too much back light, red-eye fix and a monochrome effect to produce a black and white image.

Expect to see the D40x for sale from 29th March 2007, priced at £599.99.
