Resembling a somewhat alarming Muppet, Anty is a robot designed to make sick children happier, probably because however crappy their lives may be, at least they’ve got better noses. Anty has sensors for vision, audio and touch, and demonstrates moods via AI. It can react to being hugged, cuddled or smacked, and its attitude develops the longer it knows the child. Anty, developed by the Robotics & Multibody Research Group at VUB – Brussels University, stands 70cm tall and weighs about 4kg. [GT]
