Forget specs: Unreal Tournament makes you see better

3.jpgAnd you can stop munching on those carrots too. All you need is a good session on a first-person shooter. New research from the University of Rochester claims that playing Unreal Tournament for an hour a day can improve your vision by up to 20%.

Boffins at the university tested students over the course of a month for the research. “Action video game play changes the way our brains process visual information,” says Daphne Bavelier, professor of brain and cognitive sciences at the university. “After just 30 hours, players showed a substantial increase in the spatial resolution of their vision”

It doesn’t work for all games though: a control group played Tetris for an hour a day, and didn’t show a similar improvement in vision. The next step for the university is to test students in a new “360-degree virtual reality lab” that’s being built there. Cool.
