MacWorld 2007: Microsoft Office 2008 to be Universal Mac application

Microsoft have planned a universal Mac version of their Office 2008 suite of applications to be released some time in the second quarter of 2007.
Universal software is coded to run natively on both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs, without Mac OS X having to do any translation, thus resulting in faster (and possibly more stable) execution.
Some notable features of the new package include the “Elements Gallery” that automates complicated tasks, and a Publishing Layout View.
I’m not sure how many Mac users get excited about installing another Microsoft monster on their machines, but at least they’ll have the option of staying up-to-date and relatively compatible with their PC-owning friends.
