We featured the DocuPen RC800 not long back – it’s a pen-sized tool that offers full colour scanning of documents, which can then be saved to a PC or PDA or sent via email. If that appeals to you, you will be pleased to know that it’s been improved and now comes with a range of optional add-ons.

The latest DocuPen RC800 has a built-in processor, 8 MB on-board flash memory, a slot for MicroSD memory cards to further increase scanning capacity and is powered by a Li-Ion rechargeable battery. The latest version also offers a 24-bit colour scanning option as well as the 12-bit colour, greyscale and monochrome scanning modes.

New to the UK market are a range of accessories for the DocuPen. A Universal Mobile Charger (UMC) fully charges the DocuPen in just 15 minutes from any AC power outlet for 24 hours of continuous use. Each three-hour charge of the UMC device provides 55 DocuPen recharges. Additional connectors will soon be available to charge all mobile phones, PDA’s and digital cameras too. There’s also a Universal Memory Reader (UMR) that reads nine types of memory cards to allow data to be transferred to a PC from the DocuPen, along with PDAs, mobiles, digital cameras, video camcorders and MP3 players. The UMR plugs directly into the USB port.

The accessories can be purchased individually or as part of an Executive Kit, including the DocuPen, Universal Mobile Charger, Universal Memory Reader, retractable USB cable, one MicroSD memory card, PaperPort SE document management and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software, and a leather case for the DocuPen itself. The DocuPen RC800 is priced at £209.99, prices for the Executive Kit and accessories are to be confirmed.
