Creative has unveiled the Live! Cam Optia – its first USB 2.0 webcam, optimised for use with Skype and Windows Live Messenger.

It features a high-precision glass lens for increased video clarity and sharper images, Smart Face Tracking technology to keep the face constantly in the video frame, privacy control (when not in use) and Advanced Video FX, to create visual effects, including backdrops and distortion, for your image.

It captures video at up to 640×480 resolution, and photos at up to 1.3 megapixel resolution (interpolated). With USB 2.0 connectivity, raw data is transferred from the webcam to the PC without compression, providing video quality of up to 30 frames per second.

Bundled with software to boost the functionality further, you can pick one up now, priced around £49.99.
