Vodafone has launched its Mobile Connect USB Modem, a new version of the 3G broadband data card, designed especially for the latest generation of laptops and Apple MacBooks and offering access 3G broadband just by plugging it into your USB slot.

The Vodafone Mobile Connect USB Modem offers download speeds of around 1.4Mbps – if you have the coverage. Vodafone claims the service now covers all major cities and towns across the UK, with all 3G areas upgraded to 3G broadband by summer 2007. When outside of 3G broadband coverage, you’ll be able to access the web using Vodafone’s existing 3G and GPRS services.

Installation is as simple as plugging in for Windows users. But if you use Apple, additional software will need installing. No additional power source is required. Price obviously varies – the modem itself is available from £49, but you can add to that a monthly charge of between £25 and £95, dependent on the contract you choose.
