O2 has unveiled a content-sharing service called My Blue Book that enables consumers to upload text, photos and videoclips to a dedicated website to share with friends and family. According to Mobile Marketing Magazine O2 customers can also use the service to back up their contacts. The service has been up and running for around three weeks, but has not yet been officially promoted.
To upload content, users send it to a dedicated shortcode, 40202. From the summertime, however, users who register for the service will no longer need to actively upload content. Any MMS or SMS message they create or receive will automatically be uploaded to the site. The customer can then forward a link to the site to anyone they wish to share the content with.
In addition to the uploading services, O2 says customers will also be able to create blogs and to sync over the air with Microsoft Outlook. The service is being offered to O2 customers free of charge.

“We thought about charging for it, but we decided not to in the interests of creating a stickier customer relationship” says O2 Capability & Innovation Director, Rick Shaw.
O2 has also revealed that one customer using its ‘Look at Me’ user-generated content channel has earned £525 in the last three months via the 10% commission users receive when a clip they have uploaded is downloaded by another customer. Downloads normally cost 35p per clip, but are currently being offered for 10p per clip. O2 says the customer in question ‘Rachel M’ has earned the money via a variety of clips, “none of which are saucy”.
Separately, O2 has revealed plans to continue the Mobile TV trial it ran in Oxford earlier this year, though has not set a date or a venue for the second phase. A trial in Ireland, involving 500 users, begins in January. The company also says it will trial NFC (Near Field Communications) technology in 2007, looking at smart ticketing and smart poster applications.
