External hard drives don’t have to be dull. Just ask LaCie, which has produced the Brick desktop hard drive, which looks not unlike those Lego building bricks you had as a child.

Designed by “world famous designer” Ora-Ïto, the LaCie Brick Desktop Hard Drive (as it’s officially known) hooks up to your computer via USB 2.0 for speedy transfer of your files, photos and music. And as your storage needs grow, so can your pile of Bricks – buy another one and stack it on top.

It has a maximum sustained transfer rate of 34MB/s and an ultra-quiet cooling system that adjusts settings automatically as necessary. All the Bricks are colour-coded according to their capacity – 160GB (white), 250GB (red), 300GB (blue) and 500GB (red), with prices starting at around $100 (just over £50) for a 160GB drive.
