When someone mentions conference calling, I just imagine a huddled mass of suits in a boardroom, each trying to get themselves heard in the verbal free-for-all. Canyon’s VoIP Station aims to change that perception, pitching its device at the family unit.

The idea behind the VoIP Station is to make “teleconferencing” more accessible, bringing it from the boardroom to the home. With the same quality technology as high-end business systems, the VoIP Station uses VoIP for free calls across home internet connections, but without having to pass the handset round.

Compatible with Skype, MSN and most other services, the VoIP Station plugs into a USB socket and features an integrated omni-directional microphone so everyone gets heard, along with audio jacks if you want a bit of privacy. It’s available now for £39.95.
