I’m surprised it’s not happened sooner, but at last Sony have chosen to recall their own batteries from their own notebook computers. Initially it’s just for those in China and Japan, so if you’re a Vaio or other Sony notebook owner elsewhere in the world, you might have to hang on a little longer.
The repercussions of this massive recall could yet hurt Sony even more, with several other PC manufacturers (Toshiba, Hitachi and Fujitsu) possibly seeking compensation for damage of their reputation. Quite how you calculate that is another matter, but I’m sure the lawyers will have a good go.
It’s not great news for Sony all round, with European PS3 delays, and price cuts on their latest console. Maybe not everyone’s favourite tech company right now.
