Speed on M42 and get shamed in lights

The latest gadget on the tech-heavy M42 roadway is a sign that uses radar to show not only how fast you’re going, but what your license plate is, in fat glowing white letters with a big red bullseye. It seems to work – half of speeders do actually lift their lead foot as soon as they realize that everybody knows what they’re doing (and the idea that their number is being recorded for posterity and potential later big fat ticket writing is probably also percolating through their speeding brains). Couple this with a vanity plate and it’s one way to get your name in lights – albeit expensively when the nice copper comes by afterward with the bill. [GT]
