Microsoft blames EU antitrust action for possible European Vista delay

Microsoft has effectively stated that the ongoing European Union anti-trust legislation brought against Microsoft because it may stifle competition could delay the launch of Vista in Europe.

Four Members of the European Parliament have written to the Competition Commissioner suggesting that small and medium-sized businesses in Europe could then suffer because they won’t be able to effectively compete globally.

In March the EU gave Steve Ballmer (CEO) a list of concerns it had about particular functionality in Vista that could harm compatibility with software from other vendors. The two sides now seem to have reached a stalemate, with MS waiting for the EU and the EU saying it’s not up to them to green light software.

Whether Vista is delayed in Europe and if it has any effect on businesses remains to be seen. Many companies won’t be upgrading to new software straight away anyway.
