Apple is now shipping an education-oriented version of its 17-inch Intel-based iMac – replacing the eMac, the company’s last CRT-fitted all-in-one machine, which has been around since April 2002.

The new iMac uses a 1.83GHz Core Duo processor with 512MB of 667MHz DDR 2, with the display driven by the Intel GMA 950 GPU integrated into the chipset. There’s also an 80GB, 7,200rpm SATA hard disk, a DVD-ROM/CD-R/RW drive and a built-in iSight video camera and built-in AirPort Extreme wireless networking.

Bundled with Apple’s iLife 06 software, it retails for £639.
